Pretchat #truthordare

Teaching materials

It's not always easy to talk at home about media use, agreements about screen time, fun and not-so-fun experiences online ... The #truth #dare #do cards from the 'Pretchat' let families talk to each other in a fun way. Print, cut and you can get started!

For parents and children.

This game is a conversation starter for parents and children to have a fun conversation about fun and not so fun online topics.

What is covered

The game has 3 sets (truth, dare and do) of 11 statements to which players must respond. A lot of recognizable situations and fun challenges come up:

  • Have you ever seen something online that you didn't like?
  • What screen habits do you find annoying?
  • Find the shortest route in Google Maps
  • ...

How to use it

  • Cut the cards and place them in three piles: truth, dare and do.
  • Take turns drawing a card from a pile of your choice.
  • Did you complete a task? Then you get to keep the card.
  • Whoever has the most cards after 30 minutes is the winner!

You can also play it this way ...

  • You can play the game quickly and count points, but ideally as a parent/guardian you should take enough time to ask additional questions.
  • Some cards may be too challenging or confrontational for a child. For example, the question "What do you never want to see online again?" may bring up a story about sexting. Take time to discuss this if it happens, or come back to it at a later time.
  • Do you want to bring up certain things? For example, "What agreement about screens would you like to change at home? Then stick that card at the top half of a pile.
